Pregnancy Week by Week/Week 28: Dreaming

Week 28: Dreaming
At 28 weeks, your baby is undergoing remarkable development. One of the most exciting milestones is the beginning of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, indicating that your baby may be dreaming. The brain is forming deep, twisted grooves in the cerebrum, increasing surface area without expanding the skull size. Additionally, the autonomic nervous system is starting to regulate body temperature and manage rhythmic breathing movements. Your baby is also positioning head-down in preparation for birth. Your baby is now about the size of the head of a large eggplant.
Your Body During Week 28
As your pregnancy progresses, you may experience leg cramps due to the extra weight you are carrying. Braxton Hicks contractions, often called "practice contractions," may become more frequent. You might also notice bizarre or vivid pregnancy dreams, and some women experience colostrum leaking from their breasts as the body prepares for breastfeeding.
