Uric Acid
The Uric Acid Test measures uric acid levels in the blood, a waste product resulting from the breakdown of purines found in various foods and tissues. This test is essential for diagnosing and monitoring conditions associated with elevated uric acid, such as gout—a form of arthritis characterized by uric acid crystals in the joints—and kidney stones. It also evaluates treatment effectiveness and overall kidney function. A blood sample is drawn and analyzed with an automated chemistry analyzer to determine uric acid levels.
The test is typically performed as needed based on symptoms or for monitoring treatment effectiveness.
