Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS)
The Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS) Test measures the level of glucose in the blood after an overnight fast of at least 8 hours. This test evaluates how well your body regulates blood sugar levels and is essential for diagnosing and monitoring diabetes and prediabetes. Elevated fasting blood sugar levels can indicate impaired glucose metabolism, which may lead to diabetes or other metabolic disorders. A blood sample is taken, usually from a vein, and analyzed to determine glucose concentration.
Regular FBS testing is important for managing and assessing the effectiveness of treatments for blood sugar-related conditions, with recommendations typically set at annually or every 3-6 months for individuals with diabetes.
