The Sleep Test - Diagnostic is a comprehensive assessment designed to identify potential sleep issues that may be affecting your overall well-being. By analyzing your sleep patterns, this test helps pinpoint factors contributing to anxiety, fatigue, irritability, and other related symptoms.
For home sleep study, we usually arrive at the patient's home around 7:30-8pm. We ask that the patient take his/her dinner before 7:30pm.
We would like to request for a table and 2 chairs so we can monitor outside the patient's room.
We are looking forward to meet you. Two of our techs will conduct the procedure.
INSTRUCTIONS ON THE DAY OF THE STUDY:
• Do not nap any time of the day.
• Do not drink any alcoholic or caffeinated beverages e.g. tea, coffee, soda.
• Do not exert too much effort on any physical/sports activity in the afternoon.
• You are requested to shower before our techs arrive for the study, free from any makeup, lotion, hair wax/gel and nail polish.
• In case you require special assistance in getting in and out of bed, an aide may stay with you inside the room.
PROCEDURE FOR ALL TYPES OF STUDY:
You will be asked to fill out a set of questionnaires. Your weight, height and neck circumference as well as your vital signs will be recorded. Your head will be measured and properly marked to apply the proper placements of the EEG (brain wave) electrodes. None of the monitoring devices will hurt nor will they cause or induce pain.
We will be monitoring the following parameters:
• EEG (Electroencephalograph or brain waves) to monitor what stage of sleep you are in.
• EOG (Electro-oculograph or eye waves) to monitor your eye movements
• EMG (Electro-myograph or muscle activity) to monitor your limb movements and chin activity
• ECG (Electro-cardiograph or heart rate) to monitor your heart beat and rhythm
• Respirations from your nose and mouth as well as from your chest and abdomen. Your nose and mouth will be monitored by either a nasal pressure monitor or thermocouple which looks like an oxygen cannula. Your chest and abdominal respiratory efforts will be monitored by belts which are placed around your abdomen and chest. These are placed outside your bedtime clothes.
• Oximetry will be monitored by a finger probe, which will read your oxygen saturation levels throughout the night.
The entire hook-up procedure takes approximately 45-60 minutes. During the night, you are free to use the restroom on your own. If you have a medical condition that prevents you from sleeping on your back, please inform the technician on duty. If a monitoring device gets pulled off while you are asleep, a technician will re-attach the same.
ADDITIONAL PROCEDURE FOR:
• Diagnostic Study:
After the procedure as described in C, you will be monitored for any Sleep Related Breathing Disorders. Ideally the procedure must run for a minimum of 6 hours with the patient asleep.
• Titration:
Prior to the procedure as described in C, you will be fitted with a mask which you will wear over your nose to treat the snoring as well as the sleep apnea. While you are asleep, the pressure will be gradually increased/decreased until we get the optimal pressure.
• Split night or combination sleep study:
The first part of the night, minimum of 2 hours, will be the diagnostic study, to see any traces of Sleep Related Breathing Disorders. If it is determined that you have any Sleep Related Breathing Disorders, we will proceed with the titration, as explained above.
At the end of the study:
The study usually ends between 5:00-6:00 am. The technician will remove all the monitoring devices. This process takes about 15-20 minutes. You may use a hot/cold shower to wash off all the residues from the paste/adhesions.
