Vaccine Administration
Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis:
- For children at high risk (such as those working with animals or traveling to areas with rabies), the vaccine is given in 3 doses:
- Day 0, 7, and 21-28.
Post-Exposure Prophylaxis:
- If a child is bitten or scratched by an animal suspected to be rabid, the vaccine should be administered immediately. The child will receive 4 doses:
- Day 0, 3, 7, and 14.
- Rabies Immune Globulin (RIG) is also given on day 0.
