Your first line of defense against cervical cancer starts with a Pap smear – a quick, simple screening test that can detect early cell changes in your cervix before they become a serious concern.
Regular Pap smears are recommended for all women starting at age 21. If you're 21-29, you should get tested every 3 years. For women 30-65, you get tested with both a Pap and HPV test every 3 years. Even if you've had the HPV vaccine, regular Pap smears are still important for complete protection. The good news? Most women can stop testing after age 65 if they've had normal results for many years.
