Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) is an enzyme found in many tissues—blood cells, liver, muscle, lungs, and others. When cells are damaged or break down, LDH can rise, so it works as a broad “tissue stress” signal. Doctors read LDH alongside more specific tests (e.g., CBC for hemolysis, ALT/AST for liver, CK for muscle) to locate source of potential problem. This test is commonly included in targeted check-ups to support early detection and better monitoring.
No patient preparation is required.
