What is a gastroscopy?
A gastroscopy, also called an upper endoscopy or EGD, examines your esophagus, stomach, and the first part of your small intestine. A thin, flexible camera is passed through your mouth while your throat is numbed or you are sedated. The doctor can take small tissue samples, test for H. pylori, and check for ulcers, inflammation, or early signs of cancer. It usually takes 15 to 30 minutes, and you go home the same day.
Who is it for?
• People with heartburn or acid reflux that does not improve with medicine
• Ongoing upper stomach pain, bloating, nausea, or difficulty swallowing
• Unexplained weight loss or anemia
• Anyone with a family history of stomach cancer
Vomiting blood or passing black, tarry stool is an emergency. Go to the nearest emergency room instead of booking.

Your booking starts with a consultation with a specialist at Healthway Qualimed. The doctor reviews your symptoms and medicines and confirms whether a gastroscopy is the right test. If you are eligible, you get fasting instructions and a scheduled procedure date.
