The 6-in-1 vaccine provides comprehensive protection against six serious childhood diseases in a single shot: Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis (whooping cough), Polio, Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), and Hepatitis B.
The vaccine is administered in multiple doses according to this schedule:
- First dose: 2 months of age
- Second dose: 4 months of age
- Third dose: 6 months of age
- Fourth dose (booster): 15-18 months of age
- Fifth dose (final booster): 4-6 years of age
This combination vaccine simplifies the immunization schedule while providing the same protective benefits as individual vaccines, with immunity beginning to develop approximately two weeks after each dose.
These diseases can cause severe complications including respiratory failure, paralysis, meningitis, liver damage, liver cancer, and death. The 6-in-1 vaccine offers the convenience of fewer injections while ensuring complete protection against these preventable diseases.
