Rabies Vaccine

The Rabies Vaccine for adults is typically administered in the following situations:

1.Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (for adults who are at high risk of coming into contact with the rabies virus):

• The vaccine is given as a series of 3 doses.
• The doses are usually administered on days 0, 7, and 21-28.
• This is recommended for individuals who work in high-risk environments, such as veterinarians, animal handlers, laboratory workers dealing with rabies virus, or travelers going to areas where rabies is common.

2.Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (for adults who have been potentially exposed to rabies, such as being bitten or scratched by an animal):

• The vaccine should be given immediately after exposure, along with a dose of Rabies Immune Globulin (RIG).
• The vaccine is administered as a series of 4 doses, typically on days 0, 3, 7, and 14 after exposure.
• If the person has already received the pre-exposure vaccination, fewer doses may be required.

It's essential that the rabies vaccine be administered as soon as possible after exposure to ensure effectiveness in preventing the disease.
